For Those That Have Read THE HELP...

Which character do you feel you are most like? Why?

I would like to think that I am most like Skeeter... brave, intelligent, accepting... I really like this character-- one thing that draws me to her, and this may seem kind of a silly reason, is that her name is Eugenia. This was my mom's name-- certainly not common. And she reminds me of my mom in some ways-- she is very smart, doesn't care so much what others think, more nerdy than fashionable.

But she also knows what she believes and how she feels, and she doesn't let her silly, shallow friends change her opinion. (We all have friends like these, don't we?) And we always get to a point where we think, "WHY am I friends with this person?" Of course the question may REALLY be, "AM I really friends with this person?"

Looking forward to hearing what you think...

I'm still chugging along! On page 303 now!

  1. Okay, since I was pressured into a comment, I guess I'd better say something! :)
If we're all perfectly honest, don't we have a little bit of all the characters in us? Even though there may be some things we may not be real proud of, I do think that's true. I imagine I'm like Skeeter: non-biased, non-prejudicial. BUT, I do fly off the handle at times like Minnie (although I would NEVER, EVER do what she did!), but have a soft side like Abileen. Then there's Ms. Hilly. Haven't all of us acted a bit "uppity" like her at one time or another? (Not proud moments, huh?) And Elizabeth, who is so desperately trying to fit into a group where she probably really doesn't belong. And Celia...trying to make a better life for herself but shunned by Ms.Hilly because she married Hilly's old beau. I felt so incredibly sorry for Celia.
Oh, and just so you know, S., I had to google the characters to refresh my memory since it's been a while since I read the book!

  2. Good point Mary... I have found myself being a little like Miss Hilly today actually... "uppity" and feeling very "revengeful" (is that a word? If not, it should be!)
